A rainy day is no excuse for an unhappy day. Pops of colors and unexpected prints can make for a much brighter day, even if the sun isn't contributing.
In the spring I purchased a basic trench that has contrasting zippers, along with some gray gloss Hunter wellies, and I actually get excited to wear them when it rains. (And that's a good thing, because New England never has a shortage of weather changes.)
