loving leopard

leopard print shirt, brown riding boots

leopard print button down (old, from J.Crew Factory- also love this one) // black skinnies // boots (last Fall season- also like these and these) // new ottoman (I also love it in blue velvet!)

I've been wearing a lot of leopard lately, so naturally I've been hunting for the perfect leopard coat to wear when the weather gets chilly. But I'm debating on whether to go tailored trench or fun and fuzzy.

This one is fun and looks really warm, but I'm not sure about the fuzziness of it. This one is a contender (especially if it means I can wear long gloves a la Kerry Washington), as is this one.

Dazzling Blue crush

cobalt crushing

AĆ©ropostale ponte knit dress // Le Silla pumps // Betsey Johnson earrings // Charlotte Olympia clutch // GUESS by Marciano clutch // MSGM quilted skirt // INC International Concepts cabochon ring // Joie top // Gorjana bracelet // Givenchy shoulder bag

Pantone recently named Dazzling Blue as one of its colors for Spring 2014, which I could not be more excited about:  I'm a sucker for anything in a cobalt hue. I feel like I should be focusing on patterns and cozy knits in neutral colors right now, but I can't help but mix in bright blues to my ever-growing wish list.

outfit: the blues

Do you ever have one of those days where you go through three or four outfits before finally finding something you're comfortable in that suits your day? It seems to happen to me more often than not, which is why I have a healthy collection of easy shift dresses for summer work days. Sidenote: I need to start taking photos in the morning, when I don't look exhausted from the work day.

Someone really wanted to be in the pictures. Here's the look he got after pawing at my hand, to which his face said, "What? I'm important."

bow style

When my good friend Mary showed up to the rehearsal dinner two weeks ago with a pretty gold bow in her hair, I was excited that we had both chosen bow elements in our outfits (she also looked adorable).

on me: Minuet dress (purchased via ideeli - similar here and here) // Enzo Angiolini heels // Gorjana bracelet // nameplate necklace via Etsy (similar)

You could put a bow on pretty much anything and I would love it (hello these heels and this dress). Also loving these items (especially the boots!)

outfit: mint, pink, black and white stripes

One closet staple that every girl should have is a good blazer, especially to balance a skinnier pant for the office. Even though my office is pretty casual when it comes to dress, I don't want to be anywhere near "that girl" - you know, the one who wears leggings with a shirt that barely covers her butt.

This mint green blazer has a bit of stretch to it and a fun striped cuff, so it isn't anywhere near part of a skirt suit (which I promise I never wear).

I'm not normally one to look for a shorter heel, but these Sam Edelman striped slingbacks caught my eye a few months ago.

fall prep

It's been feeling like Fall lately here in New England, and I could not be more excited. I have always loved the fall more than any season, so I'm excited to swap out my summer wardrobe of thin tanks and cotton skirts in exchange for leather accents, knee-high boots, and scarves. (Sidenote: I own more scarves than any woman should.)

Here are a few items on my radar as we move from humid summer days to changing leaves and cool nights.

Do you have any key Fall pieces you gravitate to?

outfit: slouchy pants and wine

I bought a pair of slouchy pants a few months ago, but this was the first time I pulled them out of the closet - and I felt like I was in pajama pants all day (in a good way). For a busy workday I paired them with this wine-colored batwing blouse and black and burgundy heels with a pop of gold under the heel.

outfit: casual scallops

Remember when I told you I got a new DSLR? I've been playing with my camera lately, and I've decided to share some outfit posts with you. This blog has turned into much more "life" than it has "style" (get it... lifestyle...), and I'm going to fix that, starting now.

If I'm making a stupid face, please tell me and I will try not to do it again. I'm not a model by any stretch of the imagination. Consider that your warning.

I work in a pretty casual office, so this is a typical workday outfit for me. I'm normally wearing heels, but on a day when I'm running from meeting to meeting, I pull out a comfy pair of flats. These basic black ballet flats feel like slippers - seriously!

Tuesday Shoesday: feathered friends

On an improptu trip to Nordstrom Rack, I stumbled upon these feathered Michael Kors beauties. Granted, I cannot walk in platforms- but how FUN.

And in case you can walk in platforms, I found them on ebay in a size 6 and 10

happy Friday: a Zara sale

Important PSA: Zara is having a sale, and it is fantastic. Of course, the one pair of studded heels I've had my eye on for months is sold out in my size, but I did snap up some other great deals.

The lace studded heels will look fab with any LBD, while the nude heels are just what I like- basic, but with a surprise element of a studded ankle strap. I've wanted a leather skirt for a while, so I'm excited to get this one for the fall. And I had a go-to military style jacket a while ago that I lost, so I'm hoping this one will be the perfect replacement.

Did you take advantage of Zara's sale today?

Sex and the City fashion favorites

After watching Sex and the City for what has to be the millionth time, I was thinking about why I love it so much. I was a big fan of the show, so it was a natural extension for me to also love the movie. There are so many fashion moments that I can't get over. Here are 3 of my favorites.

The angel-sleeve dress, which was actually a vintage Emma Domb dress (from about the 1960s) that Patricia Field altered to be this gorgeous angel wing mini. There's a version available for $280 that doesn't do this justice.

So Carrie went on her honeymoon with her lady friends after being jilted at the altar and somehow managed to look way better than I have ever looked on a vacation. Ever. Maybe I just need a fedora and some white linen pants and that will totally fix everything?

Can't even handle these shoes. In the movie Carrie says they cost $525, but they're available for almost double that price at Bergdorf's. For $965 you can have your very own pair. (And if for some reason you're feeling generous, I'll take a pair too.)

Tuesday Shoesday: May purchases

I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend! I spent some time with friends and family, both in Boston and on the Cape. My belated thanks to everyone who has served and continues to serve our great country!

This Tuesday I'm sharing some of my May shoe purchases.

1. I've been checking out these J.Crew cap toe pumps for a while, and when they were on sale plus another 20% off, I had to get them. They go with pretty much everything.
2. I spotted the Zara heels (now only available in black) on Ashley's blog and couldn't pass them up at the $29.99 sale price. I've already worn them twice in the week that I've had them!
3. These Pour La Victoire beauties were on ideeli's sale and have a surprise gold detail under the heel. It's little details like that that get me.
4. I've been stalking these Valentino heels, but I can't afford the $1,000 price tag. I was floored when I found these Rachel Roy lookalikes at a fraction of the Valentino price on ideeli's site!
5. Who doesn't need a pair of blue glitter metal-spiked heels? Clearly, I do.

The winner of the bunch for least practical but most awesome are definitely these blue glitter Enzos. I can't get over how fun they are.

Around Here

Flowers are in bloom all around my yard, and some of them are so gorgeous. This is my attempt at using some of my new photo skills that I learned at Blog Better Boston

Sprout and I spend a lot of quality time together on the weekends, and last weekend after his new haircut, I made him pose for quite a few photos. This was his "Please stop, I'm tired" face. I think we got some good ones for next year's Christmas card, though! Success.

I feel like this Spring is busier than last. But with two graduations this week, visits from some really fun people I don't see enough, and some vacation plans in the works, it's mostly a very good busy!

Before yesterday's graduation event, my little sister and I realized how much our styles are alike:

May must haves

My May must-haves are a few things I won't let myself purchase, but I stalk them nonetheless.

- While a lot of girls fawn over the color pink, I'd love to add this Cuisinart mixer in baby blue, available at Lowe's, to my kitchen.
- These Zara-style GoMax shoes, which I found on ideeli (I really should just send my paycheck directly to ideeli these days) and these Zara studded sandals that I just cannot get over
- Frette sheets are too expensive for me now, but someday they will be mine. (If you've never slept in them, get to a hotel that has them, and then tell me you aren't stalking them too.)
- A dress with a bow would be sweet for the summertime
- A rose gold ring, something like this, or these mixed-metal rings

easy summer pieces

Hot summer days call for easy-to-wear pieces that have style but that you can be comfortable in. It kills me when I see women who clearly got way too dolled up and then limp in their too-high heels or are clearly sweltering in whatever they put on. (Especially if they're just at the grocery store. Don't get me wrong- I don't condone wearing pajama pants, even if it's just for a gallon of milk, which I unfortunately see way too often in the 'burbs.)

I recently purchased this blue J.Crew Factory dress and plan to wear it everywhere, from a daytime soiree to an impromptu brunch. Wedges will ensure that I don't sink into the ground at an outdoor bridal shower- have you ever had that happen? It's a great way to ruin a new pair of heels. (Unless they're black... grass stains hate the color black. But who wears black in the summer?)

Summer errands call for an easy tee dress, like this one from Old Navy, that can be worn on its own. I seriously live in these during the hot summer months. Another great pair of Nine West wedges, these with a shorter wedge, will make it easy to run around. Wearing signature studs from BaubleBar- I'm a sucker for anything monogrammed or with my letters- and a mani with Essie's "Boom Boom Room"- and I'll be able to tackle my ever-growing to do list.

Do you have a go-to for those sweltering summer days when you can't just stay in front of the a/c?

Tuesday Shoesday: fashion-forward sneakers

I am obsessed with pumps of all kinds, but today I'm highlighting a comfy shoe choice that is perfect for long springtime walks or sightseeing and won't have you wincing in pain at the end of the day.

New Balance sneakers, New Balance 442, fashionable sneakers, women's sneakers, pink sneakers

I purchased a similar pair of these New Balance 442s specifically to wear last Spring in Paris and London on long days of museum hopping, and I'm so glad I had them. Bonus: They looked cute with my skinny jeans!

Saturday stripes

A few weeks ago my younger sister and I did some retail therapy and bought matching Sam Edelman heels. How fun are these! They're sold out online, but these (from Zara) are similar.

Tuesday Shoesday

I actually audibly gasped when I saw that ideeli still had my size in these BCBG Max Azria stunners, and T thought something was wrong - and then he reminded me that we're budgeting for a million different things, and so I had to pass them up. This time. Seriously. How gorgeous are these cut outs!

I have a clutch like this night version from my mom, and I love the feel of it. These dresses and shoes - I wish my budget would allow for them!

splurge vs. save: capped toe heels

Who wants to talk about shoes? That's what I thought.

These capped heels are a great way to add some interest to an outfit. They definitely follow the dual-fabric trend we've seen everywhere, from celebrities to bloggers and beyond. I'd wear the black ones with black skinny pants for work, and the jeweled tone version (in blue, my favorite color) from Target would be fun for a night out. For another splurge version, check out the Jean-Michel Cazabat ($275), which I am mildly obsessed with.
